THROUGH AMBER LENSE...... RIP

A few post back I wrote about a new milblogger who was starting his second tour in Iraq. I had the chance to write back in forth with him a few times in the last month. I never got the chance to meet him, or to speak with in directly but i knew from the content of his writings that he was cut from the same cloth as I.

I've been waiting patiently for the last few days for him to write a new post to no avail. I just stopped by his page and saw that he had 58 comments on his last post to the 6 he has on the post before that one. I went to read the comments and saw that he has been killed. He died on the 2ND of Sept. The details are unknown to me right now. Although i only got to talk to him a few times, i feel like I've lost a friend. This has hit really close to home. Losing someone over here is always hard, no matter how many times it happens, it never gets easier. It hits you like a ton of bricks. He will be missed. I urge you all to stop by his page and pay your respects.

This was a hard knock. I was so looking forward to a Boots on the Ground from a just arrived "old" vet. Selfish isn't it? It is odd how close one can get to a blogger. It is if a part of them lives inside of you and never really goes away. Like reading "The Diary of Anne Frank"- she lives in all of us that took her life into our hearts. I have so taken the lives of our boys into my inner life that it is hard for others to understand that this person and all that they are going through is very real. When something happens to them - the feelings of grief go through all of the same stages that a family loss does - except that we have very little outlet for it except to our fellow blog followers and bloggers. I just had to write to Membrain, Alex and to you to connect with the people I had communicated with who were a part of it. Please, dearest be careful and don't take any of your days there for granted. Get back to your beautiful family and enjoy every minute with them. love lorraine

Damn, that sucks! Thanks for letting us know, NUGHT! I was at Arlington yesterday, first time being there since eighth grade (Spring '01). I was so deeply moved at the sight of Section 60, the final resting place for OEF and OIF fallen. I took a great deal of time, moving through and reading the tombstones of many, including a fallen comrade of my best friend. Please take care man, and stay safe!

God rest Amber's soul.
